The museum is open Tuesday–Sunday 9:00–19:30. It closes on Mondays, with the possible exception of some public holidays (check the official website).

How to buy tickets
On site at the ticket office
The ticket office is at the main entrance on Lungotevere Castello. It accepts cash and credit/debit cards. The queue can be long: on peak days (Saturday and Sunday in spring/summer) up to 30–45 minutes.
Online — recommended
The official booking platform is coopculture.it (the museum's operator). Online booking adds a €2 booking fee to the ticket price but allows you to skip the queue.

Combination tickets
There are currently no official combination tickets with other Roman state museums. It is possible, however, to include Castel Sant'Angelo in a private driver itinerary combining multiple sites.
When is admission free
First Sunday of the month
On the first Sunday of every month admission is free for everyone (including non-EU citizens). No booking required but the wait can be 60–90 minutes. Not recommended in summer.

- Very long queues from early morning
- Interior more crowded than usual
- A good option for local residents; for passing tourists the paid ticket is usually preferable
How to avoid queues
- Book online with a timed slot (€2 extra, saves 30–45 min in line)
- Arrive at opening time (9:00–9:30): maximum 5–10 min wait
- Weekdays: Tuesday–Thursday have the lowest visitor numbers
- Avoid: Saturday–Sunday 10:00–13:00 from April to October

The ticket includes:
- Access to all museum levels (including the terrace)

- The helicoidal ramp has a gentle gradient but is long: visitors with mobility difficulties can skip it (the lift leaves from the courtyard)

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter at any time with a booked ticket? No. The booking specifies a time slot. It is advisable to respect it; a slight delay (15–20 min) is generally tolerated.
Does the price include the terrace? Yes. All levels, including the terrace, are included in the single ticket.
Is the museum open on Sundays? Yes, regularly. The first Sunday of the month it is also free.
How long does the visit take? 2–3 hours for a complete tour. The ticket office closes one hour before closing (at 18:30).
