Where it is

The Napoleonic Museum (Museo Napoleonico) sits inside Palazzo Primoli, on the Lungotevere (near Via Zanardelli), just steps from Piazza Navona and Ponte Umberto I, in the heart of Rome's historic center. It lies within a pedestrian and limited-traffic zone (ZTL), making it ideal to reach on foot while exploring the center.

On foot

The best way is on foot: the museum is a couple of minutes from Piazza Navona, close to the Museo di Roma–Palazzo Braschi, the Pantheon, and Castel Sant'Angelo (just across the river). It slots naturally into any walk through Baroque Rome.

By bus

The area is served by several bus lines along the Lungotevere and Corso del Rinascimento. Nearby you'll also find the Piazza Navona/Corso Rinascimento hub, easy to reach from much of the center.

By metro

There's no metro stop in the historic center: the closest are Spagna or Barberini (Line A) and Colosseo (Line B), from which you continue on foot or by bus. As is often the case in Rome, buses and taxis/NCC are more practical than the metro in this area.

By car and with a private driver (NCC)

The area falls within the ZTL with heavy restrictions, so arriving in your own car is not recommended. With a private driver (NCC), the visit is far easier: you're dropped as close as possible, the ZTL and waiting are handled for you, and it's perfect for pairing the museum with Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Castel Sant'Angelo, or a smooth transfer.

The Napoleonic Museum pairs perfectly with:

  • Piazza Navona and the Museo di Roma–Palazzo Braschi.
  • The Pantheon and its squares.
  • Castel Sant'Angelo, across the Tiber.
  • A stroll along the Lungotevere.
