Is It Worth Booking a Guide?

The Galleria Borghese is rich in art-historical context: Bernini's sculptures require an understanding of marble technique and papal patronage; the Caravaggios have extraordinary personal and political backstories; the picture gallery contains complex paintings like Titian's Sacred and Profane Love. A qualified guide allows you to leave with a much richer understanding.

How to Book

Booking the entry ticket is separate from booking the guided tour. The correct sequence:

  1. First book the ticket (Soprintendenza Capitolina website)
  2. Then book the guided tour for the same time slot
  3. Coordinate arrival time with the guide (usually 15 minutes before)

Note: guided groups enter with the normal slot — there is no early access.

Audio Guide

The audio guide (~€5) is an affordable alternative to a guided tour. It covers all the main works on both floors and is available in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese. It does not answer questions but is excellent for visitors who prefer their own pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the guide included in the ticket price? No. The guide is a separate service that must be booked and paid for separately.

Is it possible to have a guide in languages other than Italian and English? Yes. Guides in French, Spanish, German, Russian and other languages are available but require booking at least one week in advance.

Can I choose to visit only part of the gallery with the guide? It depends on the guide: some offer thematic tours (sculptures only, Caravaggio only); the available time is always the slot duration (2 hours).
