Capitoline Hill and Capitoline Museums
The Capitoline Hill — a few steps away, reachable via the Cordonata ramp — hosts the Piazza del Campidoglio designed by Michelangelo in 1536. The Capitoline Museums (ticket ~€15) are the oldest public museums in the world and hold:
- The Dying Gaul (Roman copy of a 3rd-century BC original)
- The Capitoline Wolf (the supreme symbol of Rome)
- A vast collection of Roman imperial portraits
- The rear terrace with a free view of the Roman Forum
Recommended time: 2–3 hours for the museums, 30 minutes for the piazza.
Palazzo Venezia
The Museo di Palazzo Venezia holds medieval and Renaissance decorative arts, ivories, ceramics and historic weapons. The palace is the same one from which Mussolini gave his speeches. Ticket: ~€10. Time: 1 hour.

Imperial Fora and Roman Forum
Via dei Fori Imperiali runs alongside the Fora of Augustus, Nerva, Trajan and the Roman Forum. The area is visitable with a combined ticket (~€18 with Palatine Hill and Colosseum) or partially from the outside for free.
The Forum of Trajan and Trajan's Column are partially visible from outside without a ticket. Time: 1–2 hours.
Theatre of Marcellus
The Theatre of Marcellus (13 BC), commissioned by Augustus, could hold up to 20,000 spectators. The structure is freely visible from outside. The adjacent Portico of Octavia is another rare Augustan fragment in the area. Time: 20 minutes.
Between 10 and 15 Minutes on Foot
Jewish Ghetto
One of the oldest documented ghettos in Europe (2nd century BC). The Jewish Museum of Rome (~€11) tells the history of Rome's Jewish community. The Great Synagogue (1904) is one of the most important Liberty-style buildings in Rome. Time: 1–2 hours.
Trastevere (20 minutes)
Crossing the Tiber, Trastevere offers medieval alleyways, the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere (12th century, golden mosaics) and one of the best concentrations of Roman restaurants and trattorias. Time: 2–3 hours or a full evening.
