By taxi or private hire

Taxi: available throughout Rome. From Termini station approximately €12–15; from the historic centre (Pantheon, Trevi Fountain) approximately €7–10.

How to get a taxi in Rome:

  • Apps ItTaxi or FREE NOW (formerly MyTaxi)
  • Nearby taxi ranks: Piazza del Risorgimento (300 m) and the Lungotevere

Pre-booked NCC: private hire cars (NCC) can drop off directly on Lungotevere Castello. There are no ZTL restrictions in front of the museum. Pickup at the museum exit is easily arranged with the driver.

With a private driver

Lungotevere Castello is a regular street (no ZTL), so a private driver can drop off directly at the museum entrance and collect at the exit.

Advantages over taxi:

  • Guaranteed punctuality
  • No waiting at the exit
  • The driver can wait and then take you on to the next monument (Vatican, Piazza Navona, Imperial Forums)

By bicycle or e-bike

Rome has a cycle path network that includes the riverside route along the Tiber (ciclopista del Tevere), one of the most pleasant in the city. From the historic centre (Pantheon, Piazza Navona) it is possible to reach Castel Sant'Angelo by bike in about 15–20 minutes.

Bike parking: racks available on the Lungotevere in the immediate vicinity of the museum.

Parking

Castel Sant'Angelo is not in a ZTL zone, but parking in the immediate area is very limited. The nearest public car parks:

  • Lungotevere car park (paid, about 100 m)
  • Via della Conciliazione car park (paid, about 400 m, often full)

Driving from the outskirts is not recommended: traffic at peak hours can add considerably to journey times. Better to park at a peripheral car park and reach the museum by metro or bus.
