Where it is

The Botanical Garden / Orto Botanico sits in Trastevere, on Largo Cristina di Svezia (entrance from Via della Lungara), at the foot of the Janiculum, inside the historic garden of Palazzo Corsini. It lies in a pedestrian, limited-traffic zone (ZTL), close to the Tiber and the heart of Trastevere.

By tram and bus

Your best bet is tram 8 (from Piazza Venezia toward Trastevere), with stops nearby. Several bus lines also serve the area along the riverside roads and toward Trastevere. From the tram or bus, the garden entrance is a short stroll along the Lungara.

On foot

The Botanical Garden is an easy walk from the historic center across Ponte Sisto, and from the heart of Trastevere. It's just minutes from Villa Farnesina and Galleria Corsini, right at the foot of the Janiculum.

By metro

There's no metro stop in Trastevere: here tram and bus (or a driver) are more practical than the metro, which still requires a transfer.

By car and private driver (NCC)

Via della Lungara and Trastevere are partly ZTL with narrow streets, so your own car is impractical. With a private driver (NCC) the visit is far easier: you're dropped as close as possible to the entrance, with ZTL and waiting times taken care of, ideal for pairing the Botanical Garden with Villa Farnesina, Galleria Corsini, or a walk through Trastevere and up the Janiculum.

Suggested itinerary

The Botanical Garden pairs perfectly with:

  • Villa Farnesina and Galleria Corsini, just steps away.
  • The heart of Trastevere and Santa Maria in Trastevere.
  • The Janiculum and its sweeping panorama.
  • A relaxing day blending art and nature.
