Where it is

The Palazzo della Cancelleria / Chancellery Palace stands on Piazza della Cancelleria, between Campo de' Fiori and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, in the heart of Rome's historic center. It sits in a pedestrian and limited-traffic zone (ZTL), perfect to reach on foot and just steps from Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon.

On foot

The best way is on foot: the palace is a minute from Campo de' Fiori and a few minutes from Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and Largo di Torre Argentina. It folds naturally into any walk through Renaissance and Baroque Rome.

By bus and tram

The main stop is on Corso Vittorio Emanuele (Sant'Andrea della Valle / Chiesa Nuova), served by numerous bus lines. A short distance away, Largo di Torre Argentina is a major bus and tram hub (tram 8), convenient from many parts of the city.

By metro

There's no metro stop in the historic center: the closest are Barberini or Spagna (Line A) and Colosseo (Line B), from which you continue on foot or by bus. As is often the case in Rome, buses and taxis/NCC are more practical here than the metro.

By car and with a private driver (NCC)

The area lies within the ZTL, with heavy restrictions on traffic and parking: bringing your own car is not advised. With a private driver (NCC) the visit is far easier: you're dropped as close as possible, the ZTL and any waiting are handled for you, and it's ideal for pairing the palace with Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, or a smooth transfer.

Suggested itinerary

The Palazzo della Cancelleria pairs perfectly with:

  • Campo de' Fiori and its market.
  • Piazza Navona and the Pantheon.
  • Palazzo Farnese and Renaissance Rome.
  • The Ghetto and Largo di Torre Argentina.
