Where it is and the entrances

Caffarella Park sits in the south-east of Rome, between the Via Appia Antica and Via Latina, right up against the Appio-Latino neighborhoods. It's a sprawling park with several entrances: the handiest are on the Via Latina side (such as Largo Tacchi Venturi and Via Macedonia), but you can also enter from the Appia Antica side and from Via dell'Almone. Pick the entrance that's closest to where you're starting from.

By metro and bus

The easiest way on public transport is Metro Line A:

  • Colli Albani (Line A) — convenient for the Via Latina entrances.
  • Furio Camillo (Line A) — another handy stop for entering from the north.

From either stop you continue on foot or with a short bus ride to the entrances. Several bus lines serve Via Latina and Appia Pignatelli.

By car and with a private driver (NCC)

The streets around the park usually offer on-street parking, but the valley is large and the entrances are far apart: arriving on the wrong side can mean a long walk. With a private driver (NCC) the visit is far smoother: it drops you at exactly the right entrance and picks you up on the other side — perfect if you want to cross the valley or add the Appian Way without retracing your steps.

Tips for your visit

  • Choose the right entrance based on where you're starting: the valley is vast.
  • Metro Colli Albani or Furio Camillo for the Via Latina side.
  • With a driver you enter on one side and leave from the other, no doubling back.
  • Comfortable shoes: the paths are unpaved and partly across meadows.
  • Free entry: the park is free; check the opening hours of the monuments on site.
