Where it is
Villa Doria Pamphilj spreads across the Monteverde slope, west of central Rome, hard against the Janiculum and a short hop from Trastevere. It's a huge park with multiple entrances: the main ones are on Via di San Pancrazio, Via Leone XIII, and Largo 3 Giugno 1849. Given its size and layout, it pays to know which side to enter from based on where you're headed.
By tram and bus
The handiest landmark is tram 8 (running from Piazza Venezia toward Casaletto), which stops near several park entrances on the Monteverde side. The area is also served by several bus lines linking Trastevere, the Janiculum, and Monteverde. From the tram or bus, the park entrance is just a short walk away.

On foot from the Janiculum and Trastevere
If you love to walk, you can reach Villa Pamphilj on foot from the Janiculum or from Trastevere, with a lovely uphill stroll through greenery and sweeping views. It's an atmospheric way to pair a visit to the hill with the park itself.
By metro
There's no metro stop near the park: the closest ones still require a tram or bus afterward. As is so often the case in Rome, in this area trams and buses (or a driver) beat the metro for convenience.
By car and with a private driver (NCC)
The area is residential and offers some parking near the entrances, but it fills up on weekends. With a private driver (NCC) the visit is far smoother: they drop you at the best entrance and pick you up wherever you need, ideal for pairing Villa Pamphilj with the Janiculum, Trastevere, or a full day in the green, hassle-free.
Suggested itinerary
Villa Pamphilj pairs well with:
- The Janiculum and its panoramic view over Rome.
- Trastevere and its narrow lanes.
- Villa Farnesina and the Botanical Garden, toward the river.
- A relaxing day among lawns and pine groves.
