The Museum of Rome (Palazzo Braschi), facing the square, houses a rich collection on the history of the city from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
ZTL zone: car access
Piazza Navona lies within Rome's historic centre ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone). Car access is prohibited during active hours (generally 6:30–18:00 on weekdays, with variations on holidays and in summer). Control cameras are active.
It is not possible to reach the square by private car without risking a fine, unless you hold a specific permit.

On foot is by far the best approach:
- From the Pantheon: 5 minutes' walk north-west
- From Campo de' Fiori: 10 minutes north
- From Piazza Venezia: 15–20 minutes on foot
- From Castel Sant'Angelo: 20 minutes on foot
By bus:
- Lines 40, 46, 62, 64, 70, 81, 87 — stop at Corso del Rinascimento or Via della Cuccagna
- The bus is a good option from stations such as Termini or from the Trastevere neighbourhood
By taxi or private driver: The vehicle can stop in the streets adjacent to the square — Corso del Rinascimento, Via di Santa Maria dell'Anima or Vicolo della Vaccarella — from which the square is 1–2 minutes' walk. The route is short and flat.
Parking
There are no public car parks within 500 metres of the square. The nearest options are:
- Lungotevere Mellini car park (approximately 15 minutes' walk)
- Gianicolo car park (approximately 20 minutes, but outside the centre)
- Via della Conciliazione (pay car park, Vatican area, ~30 minutes on foot)
Alternatively, using public transport or a private driver service is recommended.
