The location
Address: Piazza di Trevi, Rione Trevi, 00187 Roma
The fountain sits in a relatively small square, surrounded by narrow medieval streets. There is no direct access from a main road: you always arrive on foot, covering a few hundred metres through alleyways.
Metro
The nearest station is Barberini (Line A), approximately 5–7 minutes' walk away.
Route from Barberini station:
- Exit the station onto Piazza Barberini
- Take Via del Tritone westward
- Follow signs for the Fontana di Trevi along Via del Tritone and then Via della Stamperia
Alternatively from Piazza Barberini, take Via di San Basilio → Via delle Quattro Fontane → Via del Traforo and follow signs.
Spagna station (Line A) is further — approximately 15 minutes' walk — but the route through the Rione Trevi alleyways is pleasant.

Logistical tips
Worst time to arrive: between 11:00 and 15:00 in summer months, the square is so crowded it is difficult even to see the fountain.
Best time: before 8:00 (very few tourists), or after 20:00 (the fountain is lit and highly photogenic).
From the Pantheon: the 15-minute walk is one of the most attractive in the historic centre — it passes through Piazza di Pietra with the colonnade of Hadrian's Temple.
