Where the Piramide Cestia Is
The Piramide di Caio Cestio (Pyramid of Cestius) stands in piazzale Ostiense, right beside Porta San Paolo, on the boundary between the Testaccio and Ostiense districts, just south of the historic center. It's one of the easiest monuments in Rome to reach, because it sits squarely on a transport hub.
By Metro
The simplest option is the Metro:
- Piramide (Line B) — the stop is right in front of the monument: step out and it's there waiting for you. Line B connects directly to the Colosseum, Termini, and EUR.
It's one of Rome's most convenient stations for travelers heading to Testaccio, Ostiense, and San Paolo.
By Train (Metromare and Rail)
Next to the Metro is Porta San Paolo station, the terminus of the Metromare (formerly the Roma-Lido line): perfect if you're arriving from Ostia Antica or the coast. The area is therefore an excellent jumping-off point for a day at the sea or a visit to the ruins of Ostia.

By Tram and on Foot
The area is also served by tram 3 and several bus routes. On foot, the Piramide puts you within easy reach of Monte dei Cocci and the heart of Testaccio, or, in the opposite direction, the Ostiense district and Centrale Montemartini.
By Car and Private Driver (NCC)
The area can get busy, with ZTL (limited-traffic zones) in the nearby downtown streets. A private driver (NCC) makes the visit far easier: he drops you right at the monument and handles transfers and waiting time — ideal if you want to pair the Piramide with the Cimitero Acattolico, Testaccio, San Paolo fuori le Mura, or a transfer to Ostia or Fiumicino airport, all along the same route.
Recommended Itinerary
The Piramide pairs perfectly with:
- The Cimitero Acattolico (Non-Catholic Cemetery, just steps away), with the graves of Keats and Shelley.
- The Testaccio district and Monte dei Cocci.
- Centrale Montemartini and Ostiense, with its street art.
- San Paolo fuori le Mura and a day trip to Ostia Antica.
