Where Quartiere Prati Is
The Quartiere Prati (Prati district) sits just north of the Vatican, framed by the Vatican walls, Castel Sant'Angelo and the Tiber. It's a central, well-connected neighborhood, easy to reach by metro and a short walk from St Peter's.
By Metro
Two Line A stops serve the district:
- Lepanto (Line A) — in the heart of Prati, close to Via Cola di Rienzo.
- Ottaviano (Line A) — right on the Vatican border, handy for St Peter's and the western side of the district.
Both make an excellent starting point for exploring Prati and the Vatican.
On Foot from the Vatican and the Center
Prati is within walking distance of several areas:
- St Peter's / Vatican Museums — just a few minutes.
- Castel Sant'Angelo — 5-10 minutes.
- Historic center (Piazza Navona) — about 15-20 minutes across the Tiber.
By Bus and Tram
Plenty of bus lines serve Prati, and tram 19 links the Piazza del Risorgimento area with San Lorenzo and Villa Giulia. Piazza del Risorgimento, on the edge of the district, is a convenient hub right by the Vatican.

By Car and ZTL
Prati isn't inside the historic center's ZTL, but it's a busy neighborhood where parking is limited and partly paid. With a private driver (NCC) the problem disappears: they drop you wherever you like (Cola di Rienzo, the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo) and handle the transfers and the waiting, ideal after a visit to the Vatican Museums or for an airport transfer.
Suggested Itinerary
Quartiere Prati pairs perfectly with:
- St Peter's and the Vatican Museums.
- Castel Sant'Angelo and Ponte Sant'Angelo.
- Shopping on Via Cola di Rienzo and a food stop along the way.
A private driver keeps the itinerary flowing, especially after those long Vatican visits.
