The heart of the historic center

Campo de' Fiori is one of the most central spots in Rome: all around it sits an extraordinary concentration of squares, palaces and masterpieces, every one of them just a few minutes' walk away. Here's what to see nearby.

Piazza Farnese and Palazzo Farnese

A few steps from Campo de' Fiori opens the elegant Piazza Farnese, dominated by the majestic Palazzo Farnese, one of the grandest Renaissance palaces in Rome and today home to the French Embassy. Architects such as Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane and Michelangelo worked on the design. The square's two fountains were carved from ancient basins brought from the Baths of Caracalla. The contrast with the bustling Campo de' Fiori, a stone's throw away, is striking.

Via Giulia

One of the most elegant and picturesque streets in Rome is Via Giulia, laid out during the Renaissance at the wish of Pope Giulio II. Straight and refined, it is famous for the ivy-covered arch of Palazzo Farnese that crosses it, for its noble palaces and its antique shops. A stroll here is a plunge into the Rome of the Renaissance.
