Where they are

The Catacombs of Domitilla sit along Via delle Sette Chiese, between Via Ardeatina and the Via Appia Antica area, south of Rome's historic center. This is the district of the great Christian catacombs, close to the Catacombs of San Callisto and not far from the Fosse Ardeatine.

By bus

The most practical option is the bus: several lines serve Via Ardeatina and the Sette Chiese area, with stops a short walk from the entrance. From the center and from Termini you reach the area by surface transit; it's worth checking the current route based on your starting point.

By metro (with a transfer)

There's no metro stop right at the entrance: the nearest is usually on Line B (toward San Paolo/Garbatella or Circo Massimo), from which you continue by bus. That's why, in this area, bus and taxi/NCC are often more convenient than the metro.

By car and with a private driver (NCC)

The area is more outlying than the center and offers a fair amount of parking, but it's poorly served by direct transit. With a private driver (NCC) the visit is far more comfortable: he drops you right at the entrance and handles transfers and waits, ideal for pairing Domitilla with San Callisto, the Via Appia Antica, or a themed Christian Rome itinerary, skipping the long rides on public transport.

The Catacombs of Domitilla pair well with:

  • The Catacombs of San Callisto, right nearby.
  • The Via Appia Antica and its park.
  • The Catacombs of San Sebastiano and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella.

A private driver makes this itinerary seamless across sites that are far apart and poorly served by transit.
