Where it is

The Forum Boarium (home to the temples of Hercules and Portunus and the Mouth of Truth / Bocca della Verità) sits along the Tiber, between the Aventine Hill, the Circus Maximus and the Capitoline Hill, in Piazza della Bocca della Verità. It's a central, atmospheric spot, just steps from the great sites of ancient Rome.

By metro

The closest metro stop is Circo Massimo (Line B), from which the Forum Boarium is a short walk along the edge of the Circus Maximus. Line B connects directly to the Colosseum, Termini and the EUR district.

By bus and tram

The area is well served by several bus lines along the Lungotevere and Via del Teatro di Marcello, and it sits near the terminus of a few routes too. It's also easy to reach from the center and from Trastevere, on the far side of the river.

On foot

The Forum Boarium is a natural stop on a walk through ancient Rome: on foot it's close to the Circus Maximus, the Aventine Hill, the Theatre of Marcellus, Tiber Island and the Capitoline Hill. From the center, it's an easy stroll along the Tiber.

By car and with a private driver (NCC)

The area is central, governed by a ZTL and clogged with traffic along the Lungotevere: driving yourself isn't very practical. With a private driver (NCC) the visit is far smoother: he drops you near Piazza della Bocca della Verità and manages the ZTL and the waiting, perfect for pairing the Forum Boarium with the Circus Maximus, the Aventine or a walk toward Trastevere and Tiber Island.

The Forum Boarium pairs well with:

  • The Circus Maximus and the Aventine Hill (with the Orange Garden).
  • The Theatre of Marcellus and the Capitoline Hill.
  • Tiber Island and Trastevere, across the river.
  • A walk along the Tiber.
